Golden Change Inc.  is a non-profit organization addressing social health and domestic violence issues in ethnically diverse communities. The purpose is to provide education, build self-confidence and improve conflict resolution skills. Golden Change aims to reduce aggression and violence by developing effective communication skills and reshaping behaviors between partners, children and families. As a result of the on-going need for these programs in the community, this organization was formed.

The association’s bilingual founder, Mariana Montero, holds the knowledge, passion, & fortitude to set positive, multicultural strides for a dynamic and evolving city, such as Metropolitan New Orleans area.  Montero holds a Master’s degree in Engineering, is certified as a nonviolence class facilitator through the Duluth Model for Domestic Abuse Intervention, and has over 15 years experience as a child abuse and personal development prevention educator.  In the aftermath of hurricane Katrina, the Latino population has increased dramatically (5-20%) in the Metropolitan New Orleans area, yet the social and psychological structures and programs need to be improved by addressing the demands from a new and ever-increasing (Latino) ethnic group.  Golden Change’s launch rose from a long overdue necessity.
